Experts call for national unity against extremism

The National Dialogue Forum has concluded its 10th Session in the Eastern Region this week with a call to stand firmly against the threats posed by extremism to domestic and regional security.

The rotating event, which was organized by King Abdul Aziz Center for National Dialogue (KACND) on Thursday, brought Saudi intellectuals, scholars and academicians on a common platform.

Underlining the importance of national cohesion in the face of challenges posed by extremism, the participants called on citizens to remain united in the midst of these disruptive forces.

They lauded the efforts of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman to counter the threats posed by extremism in the interest of domestic and regional security.
In his speech, Faisal Al-Muammar, KACND secretary-general, said: “We have to find every possible means to support the successes achieved by the security authorities and to highlight the efforts made by the religious scholars and intellectuals as well as institutions to formulate a realistic plan for implementation to curb extremism in all forms.”
He called on all sections of society to shoulder the responsibility of strengthening the forces of moderation.

According to Al-Muammar, the 10th dialogue seeks to expand through open discussions that would give opportunity for all segments of society to share and participate in the formulation of a national strategy to combat extremism.

He pointed out that extremism and terrorism have become one of the most dangerous tools of enemies to undermine the Arab and Islamic societies.

Al-Muammar concluded that the KACND uses various ways to spread the culture of dialogue. “This requires us to be able to work with both government and private institutions in religious, educational, cultural and media affairs so as to communicate with experts and intellectuals in all fields.”
